Curriculum Philosophy 课程理念
Discover how Nan Hua Primary School nurtures the whole child through meaningful learning experiences and authentic tasks that go beyond grades to develop character and prepare students for lifelong success.

What Does Curriculum Mean?
In general, the curriculum refers to the range of experiences that an individual undergoes. According to Dewey (1959), it encompasses the sum total of a learner’s experiences, such as: planned activities, lessons, learning journeys, assessments, classroom interactions, the physical environment and even experiences in the canteen.
It also encompasses experiences that are unplanned, less visible or not as easily defined, These may include the school culture, language, social norms, the unspoken codes of conduct among students, and interactions between teachers and students.
The Curriculum Experience at NHPS
At Nan Hua Primary School, we believe in nurturing the whole child. While we recognise the importance of educational outcomes, we do not lose sight of the purpose, processes and experiences involved in nurturing each child.
We focus on the holistic development of each child with the goal of nurturing an educated individual, rather than one who has merely gone through the education system.
What Assessment Means at NHPS
Assessment refers to the purposeful gathering of information and feedback about learning, with the intention of using this information to bring about improvement.
In schools, assessment most often focuses on student learning.
At NHPS, we purposefully gather information about student learning. Assessment is therefore valued not merely for the marks it yields, but for what students’ responses reveal about their learning: what the responses mean, what difficulties students have, what they can currently accomplish and where further support is needed to improve their learning.
We look beyond numbers and test scores. All assessments conducted at Nan Hua should provide meaningful information and evidence of students’ learning, progress and development. The emphasis is not solely on results and achievements, but also on the learning processes that lead to them.
Eventually, We believe that everyone at NHPS should recognise that student learning extends beyond what marks alone can reflect. At NHPS, we view assessment as a means of understanding and supporting learning, rather than merely testing students.
Hopes and Aspirations for Our NHPS Students
We hope that when our students leave Nan Hua Primary School, they do so as individuals who have benefited from a myriad of experiences that allow them to realise their potential as leaders of character who serve with heart and contribute meaningfully to society.
We hope that they will not simply become vessels of accumulated knowledge and information but grow into discerning, wise, cultured, socially adept and morally grounded individuals.
They may not yet be fully accomplished when they leave us but we hope that the foundations laid at Nan Hua will enable them to lead fulfilling and successful lives.
